Integration of zebrafish pineal transcriptomes reveals cell type-specific timing
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: This study aimed at expanding our knowledge of the cellular composition of the zebrafish pineal gland and identify cellt ype-specific circadian rhythmicity and light response. This was accomplished by combining single-cell RNA-seq datasets and by integrating them with bulk RNA-seq datasets which examined gene rhythmicity and light response in the pineal gland. The analysis identified 10 cell types, including novel photoreceptor and projecting neurons subtypes. The integrated analysis with the bulk datasets provided evidence for cell-type specific rhythmicity: neuronal circadian clocks are driven by rod-like photoreceptors, whereas the clock of accessory cells, which support photoreception function, are partially autonomous.
