Enterotoxigenic <i>Escherichia coli</i> (ETEC) that expresses F4ac fimbriae is the major pathogenic microorganism responsible for bacterial diarrhea in neonatal piglets. The susceptibility of piglets to ETEC F4ac is determined by a specific receptor on the small intestinal epithelium surface.
