Comparative salivary proteomics of people with different blood glucose levels

ABSTRACT: To evaluate the effect of glycemic control status in middle-aged and elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on oral proteomic by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Twenty-four individuals who met the criteria were included and divided into a well-controlled group and a poorly-controlled group according to their glycated hemoglobin levels. The two groups were matched in age, gender and clinical parameters. After unstimulated whole saliva samples were collected, LC-MS/MS technique in data independent acquisition (DIA) mode was used to detect the proteins in samples. In addition, we compared the differentially expressed proteins between groups with different glycemic levels in saliva. Finally, we performed functional annotation and enrichment analysis of proteins.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an increasing global public health concern, but its impact on the salivary proteome is still unclear. To evaluate the effect of glycemic levels in middle-aged and elderly individuals with T2DM on salivary proteomics, we compared the differences by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Unstimulated whole saliva samples from 8 T2DM patients with good glycemic control (G group, HbA1c <6.5%) and 16 patients with poor control (P group, HbA1c ≥6.  ...[more]
