The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) protein senses microbial-secreted metabolites to trigger the host's innate immune system. The <i>Pseudomonas</i> quinolone signal (PQS) and <i>Mycobacterium tuberculosis</i> (MTb) metabolite phthiocol (Pht) are both ligands of AhR with similar chemical structures.
