Chemical proteomics reveals mechanisms of bacterial response to ROS mediated by antibiotics

ABSTRACT: Increasing bacterial resistance has become a major threat to human health, and a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the mechanisms of antibiotic sterilization can help us better address the problem of bacterial resistance. A variety of antibiotics have been proposed to cause bacterial death, in part by increasing the steady-state levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in bacteria. However, it is unclear which proteins are modified by the ROS produced by these antibiotics and their role in antibiotic susceptibility/resistance. To answer this question, we firstly performed systematic identification of 8 antibiotics targets using our established chemoproteomics
