Metabolomics of lung adenocarcinoma, parapneumonic and tuberculous pleural effusion
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: To investigate the proteomic and metabolomic profiles of benign and malignant pleural effusions (BPE and MPE), samples were collected from patients in the Department of Respiratory Medicine. The diagnostic confirmation for MPE relied on pleural fluid cytology, thoracoscopy, and pleural biopsy. For this study, both parapneumonic and tuberculous pleural effusions were categorised as BPE. BPE was identified based on clinical characteristics and response to treatment. The diagnosis of parapneumonic effusion (PPE) was made using different methods. These included imaging findings, microbiological testing, pleural biopsy, and clinical response to antibiotic therapy. Tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE) was confirmed based on pleural biopsy, Ziehl–Neelsen staining, Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture, and response to anti-tuberculosis therapy. This study included 8 patients with MPE in the experimental group, 7 patients with PPE, and 8 with TPE in the control group.
