Ammonia-oxidizing archaea of the phylum <i>Nitrososphaerota</i>, formerly known as <i>Thaumarchaeota</i>, are globally distributed and play critical roles in the nitrogen and carbon cycles, particularly in environments with low ammonia concentrations.
