Evaluation of yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor larvae) protein extract as a cryoprotectant for frozen Pacific white shrimp

ABSTRACT: This study identified peptides in yellow mealworm protein extract (YMPE) and evaluated its cryoprotective effect on Pacific white shrimp under five freeze-thaw cycles, compared with distilled water (DW) and mixed phosphate solution (MP).

Project description:To assess the influences of a crude medicinal herb extract (MHE) on the immune composition and function in inguinal white adipose tissue (iWAT), we isolated iWAT stromal vascular fractions (SVFs) from control (PBS) and MHE-treated mice and performed RNA-seq analysis. iWAT SVF of mice treated with MHE was defined as the treatment group. Phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) treatment was used as the control group. Then RNA-Seq experiment was performed by OE Biotech Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China) to analyze gene expression changes in iWAT SVF.

Evaluation of the Safety and Efficacy of Esperanza Extract (PA001)

Project description:This is a phase Ib/II clinical study that has two phases. In phase Ib, the safety evaluation of the extract of Petiveria alliacea (Esperanza) will be carried out in patients with metastatic gastrointestinal tumors (colon, pancreas, stomach, and biliary tract) and patients with newly diagnosed and relapsed acute leukemia. In phase IIb, the safety will continue to be evaluated, and the efficacy of the Esperanza extract will be explored in combination with chemotherapy in patients with metastatic gastrointestinal tumors (colon, pancreas, stomach, and biliary tract) with newly diagnosed acute leukemias and relapses.

Transcription profiling of mouse white adipose tissue from PPARb/d knockout

Project description:Analysis of white adipose tissue of PPARb/d knockout mice. Data may point towards putative target genes of PPARb/d and thus the function of PPARb/d in white adipose tissue. Datasets were used to identify glycogen synthase 2 as novel PPAR target. Experiment Overall Design: Three month old male PPARb/d knock-out mice were on a mixed background (Sv129/C57BL/6). Wild-type littermates served as control animals. Animals received standard chow. Epididymal white adipose tissue (WAT) was removed and total RNA was isolated and pooled afterwards (five animals per group). Pooled RNA was hybridized to Affymetrix mouse genome 430 2.0 arrays arrays. Five microgram total RNA was labeled according to the ENZO-protocol, fragmented and hybridized according to Affymetrix protocols.

Healthy adults' blood gene expression who ingested Salacia reticulata plant extract

Project description:In human volunteers, we evaluated changes in gene expression profiles, immunological indices, and intestinal microbiota of blood cells in subjects consuming a S.reticulata extract. Thirty healthy Japanese males were split randomly into a group ingesting 240 mg/day of S.reticulata extract -containing tablets for 4 weeks and a control group ingesting placebo tablets. Ingestion of the S.reticulata extract improved T cell proliferation and other immunological indices, and changed intestinal microbiota, increasing Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillales and decreasing Clostridium bacteria. Expression levels of many immuno-relevant genes were altered. We have shown the S.reticulata extract to enhance human immune functions.

White Button Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) Disrupts Androgen Receptor Signaling in Human Prostate Cancer Cells (LNCaP)

Project description:Purpose: To evalute the antagonistic effects of White Button Mushroom/WBM extract on AR signaling in human prostate cance cells. Methods: LNCaP cells were treated with 1 nM DHT, with or without WBM extract (3 μL/mL), for 48h, in triplicates, and total RNA was isolated and sequenced. Results: We identified 155 up-regulated genes (Fold-change ≥ 2, p<0.05) versus 185 down-regulated genes (Fold-change ≤ 0.5, p<0.05). Conclusion: White Button Mushroom suppressed androgen respsonive genens and cell cycle division genes Collectively, these results suggest that WBM extract affects prostate cancer by interrupting AR-dependent cell cycle division and DNA replication.

Hepatic gene expression profiles in persimmon peel extract administrated KK-Ay mice

Project description:We have shown in a previous study that the intake of persimmon peel (PP) extract altered hepatic gene expression of insulin signaling and enhanced tyrosine phosphorylation of insulin receptors in nonobese type 2 diabetic Goto–Kakizaki rats. We also showed the alteration of gene expression in fatty acid synthesis and metabolism. To evaluate the effect of PP extract on obese diabetic KK-Ay mice, we fed them a diet mixed with 0.1% of the extract for 8 weeks. The plasma total ketone bodies level of the treated mice were significantly lower than that of the untreated mice. The hepatic gene expression profiles of treated mice indicated upregulation of fatty acid biosynthesis-associated gene expression. Hepatic nonesterified palmitic acid content was higher in treated mice than in untreated mice. These results suggest that the intake of PP extract enhances hepatic fatty acid biosynthesis of KK-Ay mice, reducing their plasma total ketone bodies level.
