Project description:Chinese Chestnut (Castanea mollissima BL.) has high nutritional and ecological value, so it is widely planted.However, the number of male flowers far exceeds the number of female flowers is an important factor limiting the yield of Chinese chestnut.A naturally occurring mutation in male catkin has been found on a Chinese chestnut tree in the mountains of Beijing, China.This mutant is shorter than the normal catkin.Studies have shown that this mutation can significantly reduce the number of male flowers, promote the differentiation of female flowers, and improve the yield of Chinese chestnut.In this research, we provided the RNA sequencing data of two groups of mutants and normal catkin.The comparative analyses of catkins transcriptomes presented here provides a valuable resource for discovery of genes and networks involved in the regulate the sex of the flower.
Project description:An M307 G/A point mutation of FUT1 gene has been considered as a usful marker to select the piglets that are sensitive(GG/AG genotype) or resistant(AA) to Escherichia coli F18 in foreign pig breeds. However,it is not suitable to Chinese native breeds. Duodenal tissues were collected from 3 full-sib pairs of Sutai pigs (a new hybrid between the Duroc and Taihu breeds) at the age of 28-day differing in adhesion phenotype to find the differential miRNAs that can provide the basis for analyzing the different mechanisms of E.coli F18 resistance between foreign and Chinese native breeds,as well as for breeding for disease resistance in Chinese native breeds in the future.

Project description:Wilson’s disease (WD) is a relevant human genetic disease caused by mutations in the ATP7B gene, whose product is a liver enzyme responsible for copper export into bile and blood. Interestingly, the spectrum of ATP7B mutations is vast and can influence clinical presentation (a variable spectrum of hepatic and neural manifestations), though the reason for this is not well understood. Here we describe the successful generation of iPSCs from a Chinese patient with Wilson’s disease that bears the R778L Chinese hotspot mutation in the ATP7B gene.

Project description:Gene and miRNA profiles from a unique Chinese/Caucasian trans-ethnic collection of breast cancer from Shanghai (China) and Milan (Italy) were compared using an unsupervised approach that identified similar clusters of correlated features in Chinese and Caucasian datasets. Partition of gene expression data using previously published gene signatures, such as the PAM50 intrinsic gene list and the extracellular matrix (ECM) genes, revealed Chinese and Caucasian subgroups with equivalent gene and miRNA expression profiles. A significant reduction of Luminal-A tumors was observed in the Chinese series.
