Project description:To determine whether extracellular vesicles were also present in human disease, we isolated and evaluated extracellular vesicles from synovial fluid from normal and OA patients at relatively advanced ages (70 - 80 years). Here we report the altered expression of synovial fluid extracellular vesicles-derived miRNAs in osteoarthritis compared to normal patients with age-relate degeneration to investigate potential biomarkers for OA diagnosis. The OA donors had clinical evidence of OA based on pain that led to total joint arthroplasty.
Project description:We used the scRNA-seq to characterize disease-related heterogeneity within cell populations of macrophages/monocytes in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from West Highland white terriers either healthy or affected with canine idioapthic pulmonary fibrosis. The disease is still not well understood, occurs in old West Highland white terriers and results from deposition of fibrotic tissue in the lung parenchyma causing respiratory failure.
Project description:We investigated whether biomarker analysis in endobronchial epithelial lining fluid (ELF) collected by bronchoscopic microsampling may be useful for a definitive preoperative diagnosis. Therefore we compared ELF samples close to nodule and from the contralateral site from patients with malignant or benign diagnosis. ELF samples have been derived from early stage NSCLC patients and controls. Wilcox Test was performed to identify differentially expressed genes associated to a malignant diagnosis. key words: disease subtype analysis

Project description:Vitreoretinal lymphoma is a rare subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma considered a variant of primary central nervous system lymphoma. Its diagnosis requires examination of vitreous fluid, but cytologic differentiation from uveitis remains difficult. Due to its rarity and difficulty in obtaining diagnostic material, little is known about the genetic profile of the disease.
Project description:We saw a patient who presented with respiratory distress from birth due to interstitial lung disease. Before the age of three months a diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome was made. Lung biopsy revealed pulmonary interstitial glycogenosis. Despite extensive investigations, no known genetic or infectious cause was found for the congenital nephrotic syndrome. The patient died at the age of 8 months due to respiratory failure. A 20 Mb homozygous region was identified on chromosome 17 in the patient’s DNA, revealing a novel homozygous missense variant in ITGA3 gene.
