Project description:To date, a large number of Bacillus species from different sources have been identified. However, there are few investigations on genome information and evolutionary insights of Bacillus species from cold environments. Bacillus sp. TK-2, isolated from the soil of Changbai Mountain, is a gram-positive bacterium with cold adaptation characteristics. In this study, we present the annotated complete genome sequence of Bacillus sp. TK-2. The genome comprised 5,286,177 bp with a GC content of 35.88%, 5293 protein-encoding genes, 32 rRNA, and 77 tRNA. Numerous genes related to cold adaptation were detected in the genome of Bacillus sp. TK-2, mainly involving in energy supply, regulation of cell membrane fluidity, antioxidant, and molecular chaperones. In addition, the strain TK-2 classified in the Bacillus groups was distributed on a terminal branch with Bacillus cereus A1 by Blastn and phylogenetic analysis in NCBI database. Complete genome sequences of the strain TK-2 and Bacillus cereus A1 were compared by the online tool "Average Nucleotide Identity", showing that the average nucleotide identity of these two strains was 98.26%. In parallel, A comparative analysis of the genomes of both Bacillus sp. TK-2 and Bacillus cereus A1 was conducted. Through the analysis of core and specific genes with cd-hit, it was found that the two strains had 5691 pan gene, 4524 core gene, and 1167 specific gene clusters. Among the 624 specific gene clusters of Bacillus sp. TK-2, some cold tolerance genes were detected, which implied the unique adaptability of Bacillus sp. TK-2 in long-term low temperature environments. Importantly, enzyme-encoding genes related to the degradation of polysaccharides such as cellulose and hemicellulose were detected in the 477 CAZyme genes of this genome. This work on sequencing and bioinformatics analysis of the complete sequence of Bacillus sp. TK-2 promote the application and in-depth research of low-temperature biotechnology.
Project description:Parasporal crystalline inclusion proteins of some Bacillus spp. are of paramount importance due to their insecticidal, nematocidal, and cancer cell killing capabilities. Here, we present a brief report of the complete genome sequence of Bacillus sp. BD59S, a bacterium that produced HeLa cell-killing parasporal crystalline inclusion proteins. From genome sequencing and assembly, we found that the bacterium has one circular chromosome and two large plasmids, pBTBD59S1 and pBTBD59S2. The size of the chromosome is 5283,933 bp with a 35.4% GC content, consisting of 5938 genes and 5550 protein-coding sequences (CDSs), 25 complete rRNAs (5S, 16S, 23S), 98 tRNAs, 5 ncRNAs, 260 pseudo-genes, and 356 subsystems. Complete plasmid sequence of pBTBD59S1 comprises a total size of 162,149 bp with 33.4% GC content, 192 CDSs, and 13 subsystems. The other plasmid pBTBD59S2, is 199,209 bp long with 32.9% GC content, 179 CDSs, and 11 subsystems. Analyses by NCBI microbial genome BLAST, phylogenetic genome tree, and BLAST ring image generator (BRIG) revealed that BD59S belongs to Bacillus cereus group, and is more close to B. thuringiensis. Further, the strain possesses 57.04 kDa and 54.42 kDa Cry protein-coding genes, which show significant similarities with cancer cell-killing parasporin proteins of B. thuringiensis strains.

This bacterium was isolated from the stool of a 2-year-old Nigerian boy with a severe form of kwashiorkor. Bacillus andreraoultii is an aerobic, Gram-positive rod. We describe here the features of this bacterium, together with the complete genome sequencing and annotation. The 4 092 130 bp long genome contains 3718 protein-coding and 116 RNA genes.

Project description:Bacillus sp. strain FJAT-13831 was isolated from the no. 1 pit soil of Emperor Qin's Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an City, People's Republic of China. The isolate showed a close relationship to the Bacillus cereus group. The draft genome sequence of Bacillus sp. FJAT-13831 was 4,425,198 bp in size and consisted of 5,567 genes (protein-coding sequences [CDS]) with an average length of 782 bp and a G+C value of 36.36%.

This strain, whose genome is described here, was isolated from the fecal flora of a 21-year-old Caucasian French female suffering from a severe form of anorexia nervosa since the age of 12 years. B. massilioanorexius is a Gram-positive aerobic bacillus. Here we describe the features of this organism, together with the complete genome sequence and annotation. The 4,616,135 bp long genome (one chromosome but no plasmid) contains 4,432 protein-coding and 87 RNA genes, including 8 rRNA genes.
