Project description:Simple Markov model.
There are 3 disease states: Healthy, Sick, and Dead, where the Dead state is terminal.
The yearly transition probabilities are:
Healthy to Dead: 0.01; Healthy to Sick: 0.2 for Male and 0.1 for Female; Sick to Healthy: 0.1; Sick to Dead: 0.3.
The transition probability now depends on the cohort (Male or Female) and can be expressed as a function of a Boolean covariate Male.
Initial conditions: Healthy = (50 Male, 50 Female), Sick = (0,0) and Dead = (0,0).
Output: Number of men and women in each disease state for years 1-10.
Project description:Overall, the study aims at obtaining a comprehensive picture of the African malaria mosquito, Anopheles gambiae, transcriptome using high-coverage RNA-seq of sexed whole-insect samples collected at different developmental time points. This experiment focuses on transcriptomes of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th instar male and female larvae, and 2 day old male and female adults.
Project description:Transcriptional profiling of 3 day old virgin male and female adults comparing control male Drosophila melanogaster (MDM) versus male D sechellia (MDS) and comparing control female Drosophila melanogaster (FDM) versus female D sechellia (FDS). Goal was to determine why D sechellia is tolerant to octanoïc acid, the major toxic compound of Morinda citrifolia fruit
Project description:The goal of the project is to increase colorectal cancer screening within the priority population of female and male adults age 50 to 85 in Northern Nevada. A successful community-based cancer patient navigator program will be modified in partnership with the community into a multi-level screening intervention.
Project description:Model with functions depending on Age, Male, BP (Blood Pressure).
There are 3 disease states: Healthy, Sick, and Dead, where the Dead state is terminal. The yearly transition probabilities are: Healthy to Dead: Age/1000; Healthy to Sick: According to function F1 depending on Age and Male and BP; Sick to Healthy: 0.1; Sick to Dead: according to function F2 depending on Age and Male.
Pre-Transition Rules: Age increased by 1 and BP by Age/10 each simulation cycle. Post-Transition Rules: Treatment = BP>140 , becomes 1 when BP crosses 140 threshold; BP =BP-Treatment*10 , meaning a drop of 10 once treatment is applied; CostThisYear = Age + \Treatment*10 , cost depends on age and if treatment was taken; Cost= Cost + CostThisYear , it accumulates cost over time.
Initial conditions: Healthy = (50 Male, 50 Female with Age =1,2,...,50 for each individual), BP =120, Sick = (0,0) and Dead = (0,0).
Output: Number of men and women in each disease state for years 1-10 and their ages and costs in each state. A stratified report by male and female and young – up to age 30 and old above age 30 is produced.
Project description:We utilised a 22,575 feature custom oligonucleotide DNA microarray designed from public domain databases of schistosome expressed sequence tags to explore differential gene expression between the Philippine (SJP) and Chinese (SJC) strains of S. japonicum, and between male and female S. japonicum. We found that 593, 664 and 426 probes were differentially expressed between the two geographical strains when we compared mix sexed adults, male worms and female worms. Additionally, the study revealed that 1,163 male- and 1,016 femaleassociated probes were differentially expressed in SJP whereas 1,047 male- and 897 female-associated probes were differentially expressed in SJC. Keywords: Strain and Gender Comparison
Project description:We investigated 10 female and 14 male SARS-CoV-2 positive children (age range: 0.8 to 18 years). Based on the WHO guidelines, 15 patients were classified as having mild COVID-19, while 7 children were classified as moderate COVID-19 cases. Two children were asymptomatic. 8 female and 10 male SARS-CoV-2 negative children were included as controls (age range: 4 to 16).
12 SARS-CoV-2 positive female and 9 male adults were included ( age range: 27 - 76) together with 13 female and 10 male SARS-CoV-2 negative adult controls (age: 24 - 77). 10 adult COVID-19 patients had mild disease, while 12 had moderate COVID-19. We performed single-cell RNA sequencing experiments.
