A Gram-positive, yellow-pigmented, non-motile and rod-shaped or coccoid bacterial strain, DS-61T, was isolated from soil from Dokdo, Korea, and its taxonomic position was investigated by using a polyphasic approach. The strain grew optimally at pH 6.5-7.5 and 25 degrees C in the presence of 1.0% (w/v) NaCl. Strain DS-61T had peptidoglycan of the type based on L-Lys-L-Thr-D-Asp and contained galactose as the only whole-cell sugar.
