Enamel sexing of mammoth from Kostenki

ABSTRACT: We undertook the sexing of mammoth remains (n=21) from the russian site of Kostenki based on enamel protein characterisation. We use amelogenin, a protein that is expressed differently by amelogenin X and Y, depending on the coding gene it originates from (AMELX or AMELY).
