Identification and characterization of the elusive protein backbone of the immuno-dominant and specific Em2(G11) metacestode antigen of Echinococcus multilocularis

ABSTRACT: Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) caused by Echinococcus multilocularis is a severe zoonotic disease in humans. One of the major metacestode antigens of E. multilocularis is the Em2 or Em2(G11) native purified antigen. The main objective of the current study was to identify and characterize the elusive protein backbone of the specific and immuno-dominant Em2(G11) antigen of E. multilocularis. Two biological replicates were used. Following samples are submitted: European isolate (J2012) - Replicate 1 (Sample F284313): 20200127_08_J2012_1F.raw European isolate (J2012) - Replicate 2 (Sample F284314): 20200127_09_J2012_2F.raw Central Asian isolate (AT17) - Replicate 1 (Sample F284307): 20200127_10_AT17_1F.raw Central Asian isolate (AT17) - Replicate 2 (Sample F284308): 20200127_11_AT17_2F.raw

Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) caused by Echinococcus multilocularis, is a severe zoonotic disease in humans. One of the major metacestode antigens of E. multilocularis is the Em2 or Em2(G11) native purified antigen. The Em2 antigen is used for the serological and histopathological diagnosis of AE in humans and plays an important role in parasite-host interactions. As the Em2(G11) antigen is a mucin-type and glycosylated protein, the protein backbone has not been identified yet. We h ...[more]
