Diabetic Polyneuropathy Patients Exhibit an Altered Skeletal Muscle Proteome
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) is a nerve debilitating condition associated with diabetes that can affect motor nerves and thus potentially affect skeletal muscle health. 15 participants, divided into three groups, were mapped by TMT based proteomics. The participants were classified from clinical diagnoses of DPN or T2D and were compared with healthy controls (DPN=5, T2D=5, CON=5).The current study investigates the proteomic alterations in skeletal muscle associated with diabetic polyneuropathy and compare these findings with those from patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and healthy controls (CON). The results indicate that a particular feature of DPN is a proteome phenotype characterized by a clear pattern of down-regulation of mitochondria-related proteins together with other putative pivotal proteins.
