Comparison of the proteome from hydrated and rehydrated R. varieornatus specimens
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: R. varieornatus is an extremotolerant tardigrade species. While previous reports have shown minimal transcriptomic rearrangements when these animals are exposed to desiccation (Yoshida et al., 2017 PLOS Biology), their proteome has not been explored. Desiccation is associated with proteotoxic stress, how tardigrades maintain proteostasis under desiccation is unclear. Using TMT labeling, we compared the proteome of hydrated specimens with the proteome of animals that underwent desiccation and rehydration for 1 hour. We aimed to characterize the dynamics of the R. varieornatus proteome when recovering from desiccation.
