Project description:A new Lactobacillus acidophilus strain, FSI4, isolated from yogurt, was isolated and sequenced in our laboratory. Our data, although supportive of previous conclusions regarding the remarkable stability of L. acidophilus species, indicate accumulating mutations in commercial L. acidophilus strains that warrant further study of the effect of damaged genes on the competitiveness of these bacteria in gut microbiota.

Illumina and Nanopore sequencing reads were assembled into a circular 1,951,416-bp chromosome with a G+C content of 34.7%, containing 1,865 genes.

Complete Genome Sequence of <i>Clostridium estertheticum</i> DSM 8809, a Microbe Identified in Spoiled Vacuum Packed Beef.

Project description:Blown pack spoilage (BPS) is a major issue for the beef industry. Etiological agents of BPS involve members of a group of Clostridium species, including Clostridium estertheticum which has the ability to produce gas, mostly carbon dioxide, under anaerobic psychotrophic growth conditions. This spore-forming bacterium grows slowly under laboratory conditions, and it can take up to 3 months to produce a workable culture. These characteristics have limited the study of this commercially challenging bacterium. Consequently information on this bacterium is limited and no effective controls are currently available to confidently detect and manage this production risk. In this study the complete genome of C. estertheticum DSM 8809 was determined by SMRT® sequencing. The genome consists of a circular chromosome of 4.7 Mbp along with a single plasmid carrying a potential tellurite resistance gene tehB and a Tn3-like resolvase-encoding gene tnpR. The genome sequence was searched for central metabolic pathways that would support its biochemical profile and several enzymes contributing to this phenotype were identified. Several putative antibiotic/biocide/metal resistance-encoding genes and virulence factors were also identified in the genome, a feature that requires further research. The availability of the genome sequence will provide a basic blueprint from which to develop valuable biomarkers that could support and improve the detection and control of this bacterium along the beef production chain.

Project description:We isolated a strain of Lactobacillus nenjiangensis named SH-Y15 from traditional suan-cai used in northeastern China because it has a high capacity for degrading nitrites at low temperatures. The complete genome of SH-Y15 contains a single circular chromosome and a plasmid. The complete length is 2,249,893 bp, and the G+C content is 39.68%.

Complete genome sequence data of Lactobacillus sakei MBEL1397 isolated from kimchi.

Project description:Lactobacillus sakei MBEL1397(=KCTC14037BP) was isolated from kimchi, a traditional Korean fermented food, in Gangwon province, Republic of Korea. MBEL1397 is an acid-tolerant strain with antimicrobial activity and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, which might be preliminary indications of its probiotic properties. Complete genome sequencing of L. sakei MBEL1397 was performed using the PacBio RSII platform. MBEL1397 has a 1,994,569 bp circular chromosome with 41.04% G+C content. The genome includes 1,946 protein-coding genes, 66 transfer RNA genes, and 21 ribosomal RNA genes. The BioProject has been deposited at DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank. The GenBank accession numbers are PRJNA598112 for the BioProject, SAMN13698554 for the BioSample, and CP048116 for the chromosome.
