Project description:Iron is an essential element for almost all organisms, catalyzing numerous essential redox reactions by virtue of its unique electrochemical properties. Iron levels in cells need to be carefully balanced. Rglg1/2 is an Arabidopsis mutant which display a pleiotropic phenotype partly resembling iron-deficient plants.To dissect global transcriptional regulation of gene expression in iron-deficient plants, we conducted genome-wide proteomic and transcriptomic surveys of leaves and roots from iron-sufficient and iron-deficient Col-0 wild-type plants and rglg1 rglg2 double mutants.

The influence of iron availability on protein carbonylation in Arabidopsis thaliana plant

Project description:The study examined the proteins that were specifically carbonylated in the wild-type seedlings exposed to iron-deficiency conditions. The results indicated that proteins were differentially carbonylated between the wild type and the triple ferritin mutant Fer1-3-4 in the leaves, stem, and flowers in either control or heat stress conditions. A change in the iron availability in the growth medium greatly influenced the carbonylation of certain proteins involved in the intracellular signal transduction, translation, and iron-deficiency response. Overall, the study underlined the importance of iron homeostasis in the occurrence of protein carbonylation in vivo.
