Heterotrimeric G protein signaling is regulated by signaling modules composed of heterotrimeric G proteins, active G protein-coupled receptors (Rs), which activate G proteins, and GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs), which deactivate G proteins. We term these modules GTPase-cycle modules.
