Copy number variation analysis in African cases with Burkitt or high-grade morphology identifies a high-grade B-cell lymphoma with 11q aberration

ABSTRACT: This study provides first molecular evidence of high-grade B-cell lymphoma with 11q aberration (HGBCL,11q) as differential diagnosis to Burkitt Lymphoma in Africa. In seven primary cases copy number variation analysis using the OncoScan technology was performed on DNA isolated from the lymphoma. By identifying a primary HGBCL,11q case from Kenya, we demonstrate the presence of this distinct EBV-negative lymphoma entity, which shows overlapping characteristics with Burkitt lymphoma, in regions where the latter is endemic. These findings have diagnostic and clinical implications for lymphoma classification and treatment in sub-Saharan Africa.
