RNA-seq of grey mullet Mugil cephalus liver in response to three increasing replacement levels (10%, 15% and 20%) of conventional fishmeal with black soldier fly Hermetia illucens meal

ABSTRACT: This experiments aimed at elucidating the hepatic transcriptional responses of the flathead grey mullet Mugil cephalus fed with a diet where conventional fishmeal was increasingly replaced with partially defatted black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens, BSF). This fish species is receiving increasing global attention in the aquaculture industry due to its favourable biological characteristics, including low trophic feeding habits and high adaptability to diverse environmental conditions, as well as its relatively low dietary protein requirements, making it a good candidate for production diversification.
