Transcriptomic dissection of host-parasite interactions reveals metabolic rewiring in hepatocytes infected with Plasmodium berghei GAPs
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: we perform RNA sequencing to characterize host and parasite transcriptomic changes in hepatocytes infected with Plasmodium berghei GAPs lacking either Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase (Scd) or Sporozoite Conserved Orthologous Transcript 1 (Scot1). Both knockouts elicit distinct host transcriptional responses, prominently affecting genes involved in cytoskeletal organization, cell adhesion, signaling, and lysosomal function. Scot1-deficient parasites exhibit reduced or no expression of Scd, indicating a possible regulatory link.
