Centromeres strongly affect (epi)genomic architecture and meiotic recombination dynamics, influencing the overall distribution and frequency of crossovers. Here we show how recombination is regulated and distributed in the holocentric plant Rhynchospora breviuscula, a species with diffused centromeres.
