Tuberculosis (TB) presents a serious health problem with approximately a quarter of the world's population infected with <i>Mycobacterium tuberculosis</i> (<i>M. tuberculosis</i>) in an asymptomatic latent state of which 5-10% develops active TB at some point in their lives.
