Harmful algal blooms (HABs) caused by the toxin-producing cyanobacteria <i>Microcystis</i> spp., can increase water column pH. While the effect(s) of these basified conditions on the bloom formers are a high research priority, how these pH shifts affect other biota remains understudied.
