Genome-Wide Transcriptomic Analysis Reveals Jasmonate-Mediated Defense Reprogramming and Glucosinolate Accumulation in Brassica rapa var. trilocularis

ABSTRACT: Jasmonates (JAs) are key phytohormones that orchestrate plant defense and developmental responses. To characterize transcriptome-wide JA responses in Brassica rapa var. trilocularis, we performed time-course RNA sequencing of mock- and methyl jasmonate (MeJA)-treated R-o-18 seedlings. Leaf tissues were collected at 10 min, 24 h, and 72 h after treatment. MeJA induced rapid and extensive transcriptional reprogramming, including activation of defense-related metabolic pathways and suppression of auxin-responsive, cell-cycle, and stomatal-development genes. MeJA also induced ethylene biosynthesis and signaling genes and coordinately activated transcription factors and biosynthetic genes associated with aliphatic and indolic glucosinolate accumulation. These data provide a transcriptomic resource for understanding jasmonate-mediated growth-defense tradeoffs and chemical defense metabolism in B. rapa.
