Spatial compartmentalization shapes distinct germinal center states during respiratory viral infection

ABSTRACT: Germinal centers (GCs) typically form within the lymph node cortex, but whether proliferating B-cell aggregates in the medulla engage GC-associated programs remains unclear. In this study, mediastinal lymph nodes from SARS-CoV-2-infected cynomolgus macaques were analyzed using Xenium spatial transcriptomics to characterize conventional cortical GCs (cGCs) and LYVE1-associated medullary GC structures (mGCs). A 377-target Xenium Human Multi-Cancer Panel was used to profile their transcriptional, cellular, and spatial features. The dataset enables comparison of GC organization across distinct anatomical compartments within lung-draining lymph nodes.
