Project description:<p>We used massively parallel, paired-end sequencing of expressed transcripts (RNA-seq) to detect novel gene fusions in short-term cultures of glioma stem-like cells freshly isolated from nine patients carrying primary glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). The culture of primary GBM tumors under serum-free conditions selects cells that retain phenotypes and genotypes closely mirroring primary tumor profiles as compared to serum-cultured glioma cell lines that have largely lost their developmental identities.</p>

Project description:RATIONALE: Peripheral stem cell transplantation may be able to replace immune cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy used to kill tumor cells.
PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of treated donor stem cell transplantation in treating patients who have hematologic cancer.
Project description:RATIONALE: Giving chemotherapy before a peripheral blood stem cell transplant stops the growth of cancer cells by stopping them from dividing or by killing them. After treatment, stem cells are collected from the patient’s blood and stored. More chemotherapy is given to prepare the bone marrow for the stem cell transplant. The stem cells are then returned to the patient to replace the blood-forming cells that were destroyed by the chemotherapy.
PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying high-dose chemotherapy given together with peripheral blood stem cell transplant in treating patients with intestinal T-cell lymphoma.
