Changes in the Abundance of the Fecal Microbiota are Implicated in the Pathogenesis of Diarrhea in Yak Calves

ABSTRACT:

The yak, an economically vital species on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, faces a significant challenge with diarrhea during the calf stage. However, studies about diarrhea of yak calves were few. Due to the close link between diarrhea and intestinal microbiota. Therefore, this study analyzed the fecal microbiota in diarrheic and healthy yak calves, and using a pseudo germ-free (PGF) mouse model to investigate the causes for diarrhea. This study identified microbial dysbiosis in diarrheic yak calves, characterized by significant enrichment of Ruminococcus gnavus and Streptococcus.
