Project description:Leuconostoc kimchii IMSNU 11154, isolated from kimchi, a traditional Korean fermented food, is known to be an important antimicrobial lactic acid bacterium with probiotic potential. Here we announce the complete genome sequence of L. kimchii IMSNU 11154 consisting of a 2,101,787-bp chromosome and five plasmids. The strain has genes for dextran formation from sucrose and for mannitol formation from fructose. Antimicrobial and antioxidative functions of L. kimchii IMSNU 11154 could be attributed to a leucosin B-like peptide and multiple enzymes to reduce hydrogen peroxide and oxidized thiols, respectively.
Project description:Leuconostoc kimchii strain NKJ218 was isolated from homemade kimchi in South Korea. The whole genome was sequenced using the PacBio RS II and Illumina NovoSeq 6000 platforms. Here, we report a genome sequence of strain NKJ218, which consists of a 1.9-Mbp chromosome and three plasmid contigs. A total of 2,005 coding sequences (CDS) were predicted, including 1,881 protein-coding sequences.

This genome is 5 697 950 bp long and contains 5615 protein-coding genes and 178 RNA genes, among which are 40 rRNA genes.

This strain was isolated from the faecal flora of a Tuareg boy from Algeria. We describe this Gram-positive facultative anaerobic rod and provide its complete annotated genome sequence according to the taxonogenomics concept. Its genome is 3 755 739 bp long and contains 3453 protein-coding genes and 64 RNA genes, including eight rRNA genes.
Project description:The family Caryophanaceae/Planococcaceae is a taxonomically heterogeneous assemblage of >100 species classified within 13 genera, many of which are polyphyletic. Exhibiting considerable phylogenetic overlap with other families, primarily Bacillaceae, the evolutionary history of this family, containing the potent mosquitocidal species Lysinibacillus sphaericus, remains incoherent. To develop a reliable phylogenetic and taxonomic framework for the family Caryophanaceae/Planococcaceae and its genera, we report comprehensive phylogenetic and comparative genomic analyses on 124 genome sequences from all available Caryophanaceae/Planococcaceae and representative Bacillaceae species. Phylogenetic trees were constructed based on multiple datasets of proteins including 819 core proteins for this group and 87 conserved Firmicutes proteins. Using the core proteins, pairwise average amino acid identity was also determined. In parallel, comparative analyses on protein sequences from these species have identified 92 unique molecular markers (synapomorphies) consisting of conserved signature indels that are specifically shared by either the entire family Caryophanaceae/Planococcaceae or different monophyletic clades present within this family, enabling their reliable demarcation in molecular terms. Based on multiple lines of investigations, 18 monophyletic clades can be reliably distinguished within the family Caryophanaceae/Planococcaceae based on their phylogenetic affinities and identified molecular signatures. Some of these clades are comprised of species from several polyphyletic genera within this family as well as other families. Based on our results, we are proposing the creation of three novel genera within the family Caryophanaceae/Planococcaceae, namely Metalysinibacillus gen. nov., Metasolibacillus gen. nov., and Metaplanococcus gen. nov., as well as the transfer of 25 misclassified species from the families Caryophanaceae/Planococcaceae and Bacillaceae into these three genera and in Planococcus, Solibacillus, Sporosarcina, and Ureibacillus genera. These amendments establish a coherent taxonomy and evolutionary history for the family Caryophanaceae/Planococcaceae, and the described molecular markers provide novel means for diagnostic, genetic, and biochemical studies. Lastly, we are also proposing a consolidation of the family Planococcaceae within the emended family Caryophanaceae.
Project description:Lentibacillus jeotgali Grbi(T), isolated from a traditional Korean salt-fermented seafood, is a strictly aerobic, Gram-positive, nonmotile, endospore-forming, moderately halophilic bacterium belonging to the family Bacillaceae in the phylum Firmicutes. Here, the draft genome sequence of L. jeotgali Grbi(T) (3,775,822 bp with a G+C content of 42.5%) is reported. This is the first reported genome sequence from a Lentibacillus species.
Project description:Oceanobacillus picturae is a strain of a moderately halophilic bacterium, first isolated from a mural painting. We demonstrate, for the first time, the culture of human Oceanobacillus picturae, strain S1(T), whose genome is described here, from a stool sample collected from a 25-year-old Saoudian healthy individual. We used a slightly modified standard culture medium adding 100 g/L of NaCl. We provide a short description of this strain including its MALDI-TOF spectrum, the main identification tool currently used in clinical microbiology. The 3,675,175 bp long genome exhibits a G?+?C content of 39.15 % and contains 3666 protein-coding and 157 RNA genes. The draft genome sequence of Oceanobacillus picturae has a similar size to the Oceanobacillus kimchii (respectively 3.67 Mb versus 3.83 Mb). The G?+?C content was higher compared with Oceanobacillus kimchii (respectively 39.15 % and 35.2 %). Oceanobacillus picturae shared almost identical number of genes (3823 genes versus 3879 genes), with a similar ratio of genes per Mb (1041 genes/Mb versus 1012 genes/Mb). The genome sequencing of Oceanobacillus picturae strain S1 isolated for the first time in a human, will be added to the 778 genome projects from the gastrointestinal tract listed by the international consortium Human Microbiome Project.
