Platelet-phenotypes in chronic inflammation

ABSTRACT: In addition to their well-established role in thrombosis and hemostasis, there is growing evidence that platelets play a central role in systemic inflammatory processes. Therefore, we aimed to gain insights into the phenotype and possible platelet-subgroups in the context of different types of inflammation using psoriasis (type III inflammation) and atopic dermatitis (type II inflammation) as model diseases. Bulk proteomics were performed on platelets of a prospectively followed cohort of psoriasis/atopic dermatitis patients undergoing systemic therapy.
