Project description:Primary objectives: The study investigates whether a Escherichia coli Nissle-suspenison has a (preventive) antidiarrheal effect in patients with tumors who are treated with chemotherapeutic schemes which are associated with increased occurances of diarrhea. Diarrhea caused by treatment are thought to be reduced in intensity and/or frequency by the treatment with Escherichia coli Nissle-Suspension.

Project description:Transcriptome analysis plays a central role in elucidating the complexity of gene expression regulation in Escherichia coli. By analyzing the transcriptomics of E. coli treated with water, acetone, and Cinnamomum camphora essential oil, the inhibitory mechanism of the essential oil on the human intestinal microbe was studied. The results showed that the inhibitory effect of the essential oil on E. coli increased with an increase in concentration; 1/4 minimum inhibitory concentration was the reaction equilibrium point. RNAseq transcriptomic comparison indicated that the essential oil inhibited the growth of E. coli by inhibiting the metabolism, chemotaxis, and some resistance reactions of them, while E. coli maintained its life activities by enhancing its resistance reactions. These results are of great importance to the study of the medical use of C. camphor essential oil and gene regulation in E. coli under stress conditions.

In the present work we evaluated the effect of obacunone on the food borne pathogen Salmonella Typhimurium LT2 using cDNA microarray. The results demonstrate that obacunone exerts an antivirulence effect on S. Typhimurium LT2 by repressing SPI1 and SPI2. Furthermore, the effect of obacunone seems to be dependent upon EnvZ.

Project description:According to our study, Chrysanthemum lavandulifolum extract showed excellent antibiotic effects on Escherichia coli O157:H7. A notable point is that the antibiotic efficacy of the herb extract is on the all three proven targets for main antibiotic drugs that are bacterial cell wall biosynthesis, bacterial protein synthesis and bacterial DNA replication and repair. This multi-target efficacy of the herbal antibiotics may be used as more effective and safe drugs that substitute existing antibiotics.
