Project description:Psoriasis is chronic skin disease and an important health concern. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has shown great promise in the treatment of psoriasis. However, the correlation between TCM Syndromes and genomics of psoriasis has not been evaluated. Here, we analyzed gene expression profiling of monocytes from psoriasis vulgaris patients with different TCM syndrome types to reveal the molecular basis of different psoriasis syndromes. Of the 62 cases of psoriasis vulgaris recruited, 16, 23, and 23 cases were of blood-heat syndrome, blood stasis syndrome, and blood-dryness syndrome, respectively; 10 healthy controls were recruited as controls. Affymertix's Gene Chip ®clariom D gene chip was used to detect the gene expression profile of peripheral blood monocytes collected from recruited individuals. Compared with the healthy control group, 1570 genes were up-regulated and 977 genes were down-regulated in the psoriasis vulgaris patients group; 798 genes and 108 genes were up- and down-regulated in the blood-heat syndrome group respectively; 319 and 433 genes were up- and down-regulated in the blood-dryness syndrome group, respectively; and 502 and 179 genes were up-and down-regulated in the blood-stasis syndrome group. Our analyses indicated not only common differential genes and pathways between psoriasis syndrome groups and healthy controls, but also syndrome-specific genes and pathways. The results of this study link the three syndromes at the gene level and will be useful for clarifying the molecular basis of TCM syndromes of psoriasis. Project description:Guided by the idea of combining disease differentiation with syndrome differentiation in traditional Chinese medicine, this study used the form of questionnaire to summarize the changes of TCM syndromes, TCM constitution types in colorectal cancer patients before and after surgery. The Next-generation sequencing technology was used to explore the changes and differences of intestinal microorganisms before and after surgery. The correlation between changes of TCM syndromes, TCM constitution types, intestinal microbial evolution and tumor biological characteristics in colorectal cancer patients before and after surgery was analyzed. To explore the rationality of TCM in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer recurrence and metastasis in order to guide the individualized treatment and dietary regulation of TCM.

Project description:Study hypothesis: To examine the feasibility of conducting a large Canadian trial aimed at assessing the effectiveness of traditional Chinese herbal medicine (with specially tailored formulas) and Tai Chi on improving cancer patients’ quality of life (QoL). Hypothesis: Patients receiving Chinese herbal medicine or Tai Chi will have more energy, more appetite and more overall quality of life than patients exposed to placebo or light physical exercise. Please note that as of 04/03/2009 the anticipated start and end dates in this record were amended. The previous dates are as follows: Initial anticipated start date: 30/06/2008 Initial anticipated end date: 30/12/2008 Please also note that at this time, the disease was amended from non-small cell lung cancer to colorectal cancer. Primary outcome: The feasibility as assessed through several factors, such as co-interventions, percentage of participation and withdrawal/non-compliance, preparing decoction/placebo and keeping blinding, the possibility to stratify, reasons for not participating, male/female difference regarding compliance and participation. Differences in serum proteins in traditional Chinese medicine constitutional population: analysis and verification

Project description:Using high-throughput antibody microarray, through cross-sectional sample detection and verification of samples that had undergone physical changes over time, it was found that people with balanced constitution and dampness constitution in Chinese medicine showed differences in serum protein expression. The differences were expressed as the level changes of 19 proteins such as Dectin-2, Siglec-7, AIF and TACI. The research results provided the basis for the scientific expression of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitution.
