Project description:BackgroundPsychological empowerment is generally understood to be associated with job satisfaction among nurses. However, recently published literature has questioned this association.ObjectiveWe aimed to systematically investigate through a meta-analysis the association of psychological empowerment with job satisfaction among nurses.MethodsPubMed, Medline, Cochrane Library, PsycInfo, and Embase were used to search targeted studies from conception to 20 January 2022. The correlation coefficients of each study were extracted and converted into Fisher's Z. Finally, pooled r was calculated by Fisher's Z and standard error (SE).ResultsA total of 28 studies encompassing 27 articles with 7,664 registered nurses were included. The pooled correlation coefficient between psychological empowerment and job satisfaction was 0.55. Subgroup analyses were conducted according to ethnicity, and the correlation in the Asian participants (P < 0.01) was significantly stronger (P < 0.05) than that of the Caucasian nurses (P < 0.01).ConclusionsPsychological empowerment is strongly correlated to job satisfaction for registered nurses, especially among those from Asian countries. Interventions designed for psychological empowerment could be one of the strategies to promote the retention of nurses. Nonetheless, additional future studies are essential for more investigations.
Project description:ObjectiveThis study aimed to review the relationship between job embeddedness and turnover intentions among nurses and explore the effects of the Job Embeddedness Scale, number of years in the career, education, and marital status on this relationship.MethodsThe review was conducted by searching the China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database (CNKI), Weipu Database (CQVIP), China Biology Medicine (CBM), Wanfang Database, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, and APA-PsycNet for articles on nurses' job embeddedness and turnover from intention up to March 2024. The research quality was evaluated using the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) assessment criteria. The review protocol has been registered on PROSPERO [CRD42023483947].ResultsThe results of this review included 47 studies consisting of 15,742 nurses from seven countries worldwide. A moderate negative correlation was found between job embeddedness and turnover intention (r = -0.487). Furthermore, on-the-job embeddedness (r = -0.527) was more negatively associated with turnover intention than off-the-job embeddedness (r = -0.234). The highest negative correlation was found between sacrifice and turnover intention (r = -0.460), while the lowest was for the link (r = -0.185). Furthermore, the relationship between job embeddedness and its dimensions with turnover intention was affected by different job embeddedness scales, number of years in the career, education, and marital status (P < 0.05).ConclusionThis systematic review and meta-analysis analyzed the relationships between nurses' job embeddedness, dimensions, and turnover intention. Meanwhile, subgroup analysis and meta-regression explored the factors influencing these relationships. It is an important reference for nurse managers to promote nurse retention.
Project description:IntroductionThe argument about whether leadership style affects nurses' job satisfaction is centered around the impact of different leadership styles on the work environment and the quality of care provided by nurses. Therefore, this review was primarily aimed at assessing the impact of transformational leadership style on the job satisfaction of hospital nurses.MethodsThis is an integrative review conducted according to the Whittemore and Knafl's framework. Comprehensive literature searches were conducted in PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Web of Science, Research4Life, and APA PsychInfo. In addition, studies were included through hand-searching from different sources of grey literature and a reference list of identified articles. All English articles published between 2012 and 2023 reporting the impact of transformational leadership style on nurses' job satisfaction were eligible for inclusion.ResultsSeventeen articles were included in the review, of which 16 were cross-sectional studies, while one was mixed. The majority (n = 12) of the studies were conducted in at least two or more healthcare settings, with a total of 5841 nurses. Almost all (n = 16) articles reported the positive influence of transformational leadership on nurses' job satisfaction. In addition, the transformational leadership style was reported to have a positive impact on nurses' intentions to stay at work, quality care, and patient outcomes.ConclusionBy adopting a transformational leadership approach within clinical environments, there is a potential to boost nurses' job satisfaction.
Project description:BackgroundHealth professional's job satisfaction is directly related to patient satisfaction and quality of care. Without satisfied health professionals the health system is not functional, and the national and global health related plans are not achieved. However, little is known on the level of health professional's job satisfaction in sub Saharan African countries including Ethiopia. In addition, in Ethiopia there is no summarized evidence helped us an input to design strategies. Therefore, we aimed to assess the pooled prevalence of health professional's job satisfaction and its determinants in Ethiopia.MethodsArticles were searched from PubMed, PsycINFO, Hinari, Science Direct, web of science and African journal of online (AJOL) databases, Google and Google scholar. A standardized Microsoft excel spread sheet and STATA software version 16 were used for data extraction and analysis respectively. We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis to write this report. A random effect meta-analysis model was used to determine the pooled prevalence of job satisfaction. I2 was done to check heterogeneity. Egger's test and funnel plot were conducted to detect publication bias. Subgroup analysis was also conducted. Association was expressed through pooled odd ratio with a 95% CI.ResultIn this review and meta-analysis, a total of 29 studies were included. The pooled prevalence of health professional's job satisfaction was 46.17% [95% CI (43.08, 49.26)]. The heterogeneity and publication bias test results were I2 = 87.3%, P < 0.001 and Eggers', P = 0.16. Female sex; OR: 2.20 [95% CI (1.63, 2.97)], working environment; OR: 9.50 [95% CI (6.25, 14.44)], opportunity for professional growth and development; OR: 5.53 [95% CI (1.56, 19.56)], staff relationship; OR: 3.89 [95% CI (1.65, 9.17)] and supportive supervision; OR: 5.32 [95% CI (1.77, 15.92)] were associated with health professional's job satisfaction.ConclusionMore than half of professionals were dissatisfied with their jobs. Therefore, the ministry of health and stakeholders better to design strategies to increase the level of satisfaction. Furthermore, it is better to strengthen staff relationship and making the working environment more attractive and equipped.

This study aimed to estimate pooled prevalence of job satisfaction of health professionals and associated factors in Ethiopia.MethodsPreferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) was followed to prepare this study. Studies were searched from PubMed (EBSCOhost), Directory of open access journals (DOAJ), Global health, African Index Medicus, IRIS (WHO digital publication), African Journals Online (AJOL), Google Scholar, and Google. Random-effect model was used to estimate the pooled prevalence of job satisfaction and associated factors. Heterogeneity was assessed using I 2 test statistics. Publication bias was checked using funnel plot, Egger's regression test, and sensitivity analysis.ResultThe pooled prevalence of health professionals' job satisfaction was computed from 35 studies, and it was 46.68% (95%, confidence interval (CI): 41.82, 51.54, I 2 = 95.8%). Specifically, job satisfaction was 57.56%, 48.80%, 48.57%, 48.48%, 44.56%, 39.20%, and 16.5% among pharmacy professionals, health officers, midwives, nurses, anesthetists, physicians, and health extension workers, respectively. Secured working environment (pooled odds ratio [POR] = 6.50, 95% CI: 3.41-9.58), coworkers relationship (POR = 5.14, 95% CI: 1.27, 9.02), good relationship with supervisors (POR = 5.86, 95% CI: 2.56-9.16) and having bachelor's degree (POR = 2.52, 95% CI: 1.31, 3.72) were significantly associated with job satisfaction.ConclusionJob satisfaction among Ethiopian health professionals is considerably low. Secured working environment, positive relationships among staff, and having a bachelor's enhanced the job satisfaction. Designing strategies to improve safety in the work environment and improved communication among workers could improve job satisfaction.
Project description:IntroductionCommunity General Practitioners (CGPs) are crucial to primary healthcare worldwide. Their job satisfaction significantly impacts the quality and accessibility of healthcare. However, a comprehensive global perspective on this issue remains absent, necessitating this systematic review and meta-analysis.MethodsThis systematic review and meta-analysis sourced literature from PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, and Wanfang, up to June 14, 2023. Of the 2,742 identified studies, 100 articles were selected for meta-analysis to assess satisfaction levels, and 97 studies were chosen for comparative analysis of influential factors. We employed both meta-analytic and comparative analytic methodologies, focusing on varying geographical, economic, and temporal contexts.ResultsThe pooled rate and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) for job satisfaction among CGPs was 70.82% (95%CI: 66.62-75.02%) globally. Studies utilizing 5-point score scale obtained a random effect size of 3.52 (95%CI: 3.43-3.61). Diverse factors influenced satisfaction, with remuneration and working conditions being predominant. A noticeable decline in job satisfaction has been observed since the coronavirus disease 2019 outbreak, with satisfaction rates dropping from an average of 72.39% before 2009 to 63.09% in those published after 2020.ConclusionsThe downward trend in CGPs' job satisfaction is concerning and warrants urgent attention from policymakers, especially in regions with an acute shortage of CGPs. The findings from this comprehensive review and meta-analysis provide essential insights for informed healthcare policy-making. It highlights the urgency of implementing strategies to enhance CGP satisfaction, thereby improving the effectiveness of primary healthcare systems globally.
Project description:AimTo determine the level of job satisfaction of nursing professionals in Slovenian hospitals and factors influencing job satisfaction in nursing.MethodsThe study included 4 hospitals selected from the hospital list comprising 26 hospitals in Slovenia. The employees of these hospitals represent 29.8% and 509 employees included in the study represent 6% of all employees in nursing in Slovenian hospitals. One structured survey questionnaire was administered to the leaders and the other to employees, both consisting 154 items evaluated on a 5 point Likert-type scale. We examined the correlation between independent variables (age, number of years of employment, behavior of leaders, personal characteristics of leaders, and managerial competencies of leaders) and the dependent variable (job satisfaction - satisfaction with the work, coworkers, management, pay, etc) by applying correlation analysis and multivariate regression analysis. In addition, factor analysis was used to establish characteristic components of the variables measured.ResultsWe found a medium level of job satisfaction in both leaders (3.49±0.5) and employees (3.19±0.6), however, there was a significant difference between their estimates (t=3.237; P=lt;0.001). Job satisfaction was explained by age (Plt;0.05; β=0.091), years of employment (Plt;0.05; β=0.193), personal characteristics of leaders (Plt;0.001; β=0.158), and managerial competencies of leaders (Plt;0.000; β=0.634) in 46% of cases. The factor analysis yielded four factors explaining 64% of the total job satisfaction variance.ConclusionSatisfied employees play a crucial role in an organization's success, so health care organizations must be aware of the importance of employees' job satisfaction. It is recommended to monitor employees' job satisfaction levels on an annual basis.
Project description:This article examines the impact of the growth in the incidence of working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic on workers' job satisfaction. Using longitudinal data collected in 2019 and 2021 as part of the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey, fixed-effects models of job satisfaction are estimated. Changes in the share of total weekly work hours usually worked from home are not found to have any significant association with changes in job satisfaction for men. By contrast, a strong significant positive (but nonlinear) association is found for women, and this relationship is concentrated on women with children. These findings suggest the main benefit of working from home for workers arises from the improved ability to combine work and family responsibilities, something that matters more to women given they continue to shoulder most of the responsibility for house and care work.
Project description:ObjectiveNurses' feeling of Job satisfaction and burnout profoundly impact the quality of nursing care. COVID-19, due to its unknown nature and high contagiousness, can cause high levels of stress and tension and, finally, burnout in nurses, affecting their job satisfaction. Therefore, we aimed to determine the level of job satisfaction and its relationship with burnout among nurses working in COVID-19 wards.MethodsThis is a descriptive correlational study in which a total of 251 nurses working in COVID-19 wards were enrolled using stratified random sampling. Data collection was conducted using the demographic questionnaire, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ), and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficient.ResultThe results showed that the majority of nurses (75.7%) had a low level of job satisfaction, 40.6% of nurses had a high level of emotional exhaustion (EE), 41.8% had a moderate level of EE, and 50.2% of nurses had a high level of depersonalization (DP). Furthermore, over half of nurses (55.8%) experienced reduced personal accomplishment (PA), and 27.5% had a moderate level of reduced PA. There was a statistically significant negative correlation between job satisfaction and EE (r=-0.394, p<.001). Moreover, job satisfaction negatively correlated with reduced PA (r=-5/590, p<.001). However, no statistically significant correlation was found between job satisfaction and DP (r=-0.122, p=.053).ConclusionAs most nurses reported low job satisfaction and high rates of burnout, nurse managers should consider appropriate measures to correct these factors. Such measures could also improve patient satisfaction and, ultimately, the efficiency of the health system.
Project description:IntroductionStudies investigating the effects of SARS-CoV-2 on male reproductive function are few and heterogeneous, and results are often conflicting. This systematic review and meta-analysis was carried out on studies conducted in men with active or anamnestic SARS-CoV-2 infection to evaluate its consequences on the male sex hormone profile and semen parameters.Materials and methodThis meta-analysis follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) protocols. PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, and Embase databases were searched to identify relevant studies. We originally selected 3553 articles. After the eligibility phase, 16 articles met our inclusion criteria encompassing 11 case-control studies and 5 cohort studies (2 prospective and 3 retrospective studies). We performed the quantitative analysis with Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software. Cochran-Q and heterogeneity (I2) indexes were used to assess statistical heterogeneity. Sensitivity analysis and publication bias tests were also performed.ResultsOverall, 1250 patients with active or recent (up to 80 days before) COVID-19 infection and 1232 matched healthy controls were included. Sperm concentration, total sperm count, and total motility were significantly lower in patients compared with controls. Patients also showed lower levels of total testosterone and follicle-stimulating hormone, and higher levels of luteinizing hormone, 17β-estradiol, and prolactin compared with healthy controls. None of the included studies found the presence of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA in the semen of infected patients.ConclusionThe present systematic review and meta-analysis suggests the presence of an association between SARS-CoV-2 infection and primary testicular damage manifested with a picture of altered steroidogenesis and worsening spermatogenesis. The absence of the virus in the seminal fluid indicates a low possibility of sexual transmission of the infection to partners and offspring. However, our findings mostly show short-term follow-up, while few studies have considered the long-term consequences of the viral infection, thus further studies are needed to evaluate the long-term consequences on male reproductive health.
