Mitochondrial Ca<sup>2+</sup> ions are crucial regulators of bioenergetics and cell death pathways. Mitochondrial Ca<sup>2+</sup> content and cytosolic Ca<sup>2+</sup> homeostasis strictly depend on Ca<sup>2+</sup> transporters.
