Benign prostate hyperplasia and prostate cancer are common diseases that involve the overgrowth of prostatic tissue. Although their pathologies and symptoms differ, both diseases show aberrant activation of prostate progenitor cell phenotypes in a tissue that should be relatively quiescent.
