GABA<sub>A</sub> receptor-positive modulators are well-known to induce sedation, sleep, and general anesthesia. Conversely, GABA<sub>A</sub> receptor negative allosteric modulators (GABA<sub>A</sub>RNAMs) can increase arousal and induce seizures.
