DNA methylation predicts hippocampus-dependent long-term memory, but not memory updating
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: DNA methylation-based epigenetic clocks estimate biological age and (in combination with clinical biomarkers) can predict complex behavioral phenotypes. We established a methylation clock highly predictive of chronological age, as well as two methylation predictors for long-term memory performance. CpG sites that accurately predicted chronological age were distinct from sites predictive of long-term memory performance, suggesting specific methylation signatures underlie cognitive function independent of aging.
