Transcriptomic changes in Arabidopsis thaliana (Col-0) upon inhibition of histone deacetylases with valeric acid under normal growth conditions and during heat shock.

ABSTRACT: Histone deacetylase (HDA) are highly evolutionarily conserved group of enzymes that regulate chromatin condensation and promote transcription siliencing. Inhibitors of HDA are extensively studied as potential anti-cancer drugs and their selectivity is in mammalian cells was well determined. In plants, many HDA repress stress responsive genes, thus selective inhibition of those enzymes is a promising approach to increse plant resistance to abiotic stresses. Here we showed that treatemnt of plants with valeric acid, lately identified human HDA inhibitor, activates many stress-related genes and increases Arabidopsis survival under heat stress.
