Jejunal gene expression in surfactant protein D (Sftpd) knockout and wild-type mice after doxorubicin-induced intestinal toxicity

ABSTRACT: Surfactant protein D (SP-D, gene Sftpd) is an anti-inflammatory host defence collectin produced by epithelial cells on mucosal surfaces. We investigated whether SP-D attenuates chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal toxicity and inflammation in mice. Sftpd-/- (KO) mice and Sftpd+/+ (WT) littermates received a single intraperitoneal injection of doxorubicin (20 mg/kg) or isotonic saline and were sacrificed on day 3 or day 7. Genome-wide expression in the jejunum was profiled on the Affymetrix GeneChip Mouse Transcriptome Array 1.0.
