Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the corneas of Muc13 KO mice versus wild-type controls

ABSTRACT: The mucosal barrier protein MUC13 plays a critical role in maintaining epithelial homeostasis, yet its function remains poorly defined. In this study, we utilized a combination of genetic knockout models and transcriptomic profiling to elucidate the impact of MUC13 deficiency on tissue responses. Comparative analysis of corneal tissues from 6-week-old male Muc13-knockout (C57BL/6 background) and wild-type (WT) male mice revealed profound transcriptional perturbations in Muc13-/- mouse cornea. RNA sequencing identified a distinct repertoire of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with the loss of MUC13. These findings demonstrate that MUC13 is a pivotal modulator of the epithelial barrier.
