Obesity and Diabetes Increase SARS-CoV-2 Susceptibility with Tissue-Specific Immune, Metabolic, and Gut Microbial Dysregulation
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Obesity and diabetes are major risk factors for SARS-CoV-2-associated cardiac injury, but the molecular mechanisms underlying increased susceptibility remain incompletely understood. This study generated bulk RNA sequencing data from cardiac tissue collected from 24-week-old male obese diabetic (db/db) and wildtype mice seven days after infection with murine-adapted SARS-CoV-2. Obese diabetic mice exhibited compromised innate and adaptive immune responses, including dysregulated Wnt signaling and impaired IFN-γ activation. These data provide a resource for investigating cardiac-specific transcriptional responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection in the setting of obesity and diabetes.
