ABSTRACT: Commensal microbiota in the gut has been demonstrated as a key player in regulating stress. We previously identified Enterococcus (E.) faecalis as a commensal bacterium with potent stress-suppressing effects in animal models. However, the precise mechanism by which E. faecalis modulates stress remains unknown. To define this mechanism, we investigated the effects of colonizing different strains of E. faecalis in microbiota-deficient mice and subjecting them to acute stress.
