Rumen-fluid metabolomic profiling of periparturient dairy cows supplemented with high-dose chromium propionate before calving
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: This study contains untargeted LC-MS/MS metabolomic profiles of rumen-fluid samples collected on the day of calving from Holstein dairy cows in the control and high-dose chromium propionate supplementation groups. Cows received either a basal total mixed ration without supplemental chromium propionate or the same ration supplemented with 20 g chromium propionate per cow per day, providing 8 mg Cr(III) per cow per day, from 21 days before expected calving until parturition. Rumen-fluid samples were collected at calving and analyzed to characterize ruminal metabolic responses associated with prepartum chromium propionate supplementation during the periparturient period.
INSTRUMENT(S): Liquid Chromatography MS - negative - reverse-phase, Liquid Chromatography MS - positive - reverse-phase
