Proteome of Coxsackievirus B3 infection models of human enterocyte cells

ABSTRACT: Coxsackieviruses B (CVBs) emerge as candidate environmental triggers for the autoimmunity against pancreatic islet β cells leading to type 1 diabetes. Persistent CVB infections in the gut and pancreas correlate with islet autoantibody seroconversion, suggesting defective antiviral control in predisposed individuals. Recent antiviral and vaccine trials underscore the need to define immune mechanisms at the intestinal entry site. To address this, we investigated how CVB3 modulates antigen presentation in enterocytes and antigen-presenting cells by using immunopeptidomics and proteomics, and how these events shape downstream T-cell immunity.
