Transcriptional Profile of Lactobacillus helveticus grown in milk vs. MRS medium

Project description:L. helveticus is used to modulate cheese flavor and as a starter organism in certain cheese varieties. Our group has compiled a draft (4x) sequence for the 2.4 Mb genome of an industrial strain L. helveticus CNRZ32. The primary aim was to investigate expression of 168 completely sequenced genes during growth in milk and MRS medium using microarrays. Oligonucleotide probes against each of the completely sequenced genes were compiled on maskless photolithography-based DNA microarrays. Additionally, the entire draft genome sequence was used to produce tiled microarrays where the non-interrupted sequence contigs were covered by consecutive 24-mer probes. Medical Tai Chi Exercise Healing in Treating mCRC Patients

Project description:As a traditional martial art in China, Tai Chi Chuan has excellent health benefits along with its combat function.Studies have shown that Tai Chi as an exercise prescription can significantly reduce the incidence of cancer, but the complexity of Tai Chi Chuan routines, poor disease targeting, and the lack of traditional internal mental and physical training method limit the healing of tumours and other diseases. For this reason, we have established the Medical Tai Chi Exercise Healing System（MTCEH）, which integrates Tai Chi exercise, traditional Chinese internal mental and physical training method, rehabilitation medicine and sports medicine methods, on the basis of evidence-based medicine and with the aim of targeting different tumour treatments. With the characteristics of easily learning, internal and external training, and individualised treatment of tumours, this series of routines effectively combines traditional oriental Tai Chi martial arts with tumour treatment, which opens up a beautiful and mysterious oriental healing journey for integrative medicine.

Structural and functional changes in prokaryotic communities in artificial pit mud during Chinese Baijiu production

Project description:The fermented and distilled Chinese alcoholic beverage strong flavor baijiu (SFB) gets its characteristic flavor during fermentation in cellars lined with pit mud. Microbes in the pit mud produce many key precursors of flavor esters. The over 20 year maturation time of natural pit mud have promoted attempts to produce artificial pit mud (APM) with shorter maturation time. However, knowledge on the molecular basis of APM microbial dynamics and associated functional variation during SFB brewing is limited, and the role of this variability in high quality SFB production remains poorly understood. We studied APM maturation in new cellars till the fourth brewing batch using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, real-time quantitative PCR and function prediction based on the sequencing results, and metaproteomics and metabolomics techniques. The results provide insight into global APM prokaryotic dynamics and their role in SFB production, which will be helpful for further optimization of APM culture technique and improvement of SFB quality.
