Febrile Infant Diagnostic Assessment and Outcome Olink Dataset

ABSTRACT: The FIDO (Febrile Infant Diagnostic assessment and Outcome) study aimed to look at different diagnostic approaches to identify infants with a fever at low and high-risk of serious infection. FIDO was a multicentre prospective observational cohort study that enrolled infants ≤90 days of age presenting with fever to 35 Paediatric Emergency Research in the UK and Ireland (PERUKI) sites. The FIDO study was prospectively registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05259683; 28 February 2022). Where possible, residual plasma volume was collected and stored from infants for proteomic and biomarker analysis.

Together this is previously termed serious bacterial infection with an incidence of approximately 10-20%. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance advocates a cautious approach with most infants requiring septic screening, parenteral broad-spectrum antibiotics and hospital admission. Internationally, variations exis  ...[more]
