The ratio of oxidized to reduced NAD (NAD<sup>+</sup>/NADH) sets intracellular redox balance and antioxidant capacity. Intracellular NAD is compartmentalized and the mitochondrial NAD<sup>+</sup>/NADH ratio is intricately linked to cellular function.
