We characterized the proteome of the auditory brainstem of a chick embryo on embryonic day 13, when apoptosis occurs in auditory nuclei. We identified caspase substrates by searching the peptidome for peptides C-terminal to caspase-typical cleavage sites.

Spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) and the associated components of the auditory nerve are primary carriers of auditory information from hair cells to the brain. Loss of SGNs occurs with many pathological conditions, resulting in permanent sensorineural hearing loss. Neural stem/progenitors (NSPs) hav...

In order to gain insight into the molecular events which underlie auditory hair cell regeneration in chicken, we compared gene expression in chicken basilar papillae after 24, 48, and 72 hours in culture with or without forskolin (100uM).

Under sterile conditions, cochlear ducts containing th...

Sound localization requires extremely precise development of auditory brainstem circuits, the molecular mechanisms of which are largely unknown. We previously demonstrated a novel requirement for non-apoptotic activity of the protease caspase-3 in chick auditory brainstem development. Here, we used ...

Sphere-forming progenitor cells can be isolated from the fetal and adult mammalian inner ear and give rise to inner ear specific cell types in vitro. Here, we provide phenotypical and functional characterization of a new pool of auditory progenitors as sustainable source for sphere-derived auditory ...

Auditory cued fear conditioning is a widely used behavioral paradigm to investigate associative learning and memory formation. During conditioning, an animal learns that a particular auditory stimulus predicts an aversive stimulus, a foot shock. When later confronted again with this conditional audi...
ORGANISM(S): Mus musculus
Learning and memory processes are accompanied by rearrangements of synaptic protein networks. While various studies have demonstrated the regulation of individual synaptic proteins during these processes, much less is known about the complex regulation of entire synaptic proteomes. Recently, we repo...
